Our Best Friend (the Dog) by Yan Skates

Summer 2021
King's Road Curve

Free

This installation is dedicated to the memory of KCAW Advisory Board member and Chelsea resident Sarah Farrugia, who worked tirelessly to support cultural activities in the area for many years. Together with the local community, her work included making sure that colourful flower baskets appeared in the famous King’s Road and festive Christmas lights lit up the street during the winter time.
This installation is created by artist and florist Yan Skates. It features a 2 metre tall dog made from various materials and living plants. The sculpture acts as a symbol of companionship and invites us to get close to investigate its unusual materials; encouraging conversation and new connections.
Using discarded materials such as water bottles alongside living greenery, the sculpture is a reminder of our beautiful planet, its vibrant fauna and flora, and our own impact on the environment.

The work is presented as part of the KCAW21 Public Art Trail – a series of temporary installations placed in locations across Kensington and Chelsea to interact with the public in unique and unusual ways for Summer 2021
